Why Is the Alignment Of Your Body So Important?

Have you tried physio, chiro or osteopath treatments for your pain? Maybe also exercises and stretches? Has anyone ever analysed the alignment of your body, or did they just focus on the area that hurts? By ignoring the alignment of your body, you're likely missing the fundamental reason for your pain.

Let's take a closer look.

The human body has a design blueprint that we all share. Your body’s alignment is designed to have the ankles, knees, hips and shoulders stacked vertically on top of each other and to be symmetrical left to right.

Weight is distributed equally front to back and side to side.

When your skeleton, or posture, is properly aligned this way, the musculoskeletal system is functioning optimally and the body is strong, mobile, stable, balanced and moves efficiently without pain.

But what happens when we lose this natural alignment?

Most chronic pain results from muscle imbalance and skeletal misalignments which compromise our posture
and affect the way we move.

Your body can become out of alignment due to an old injury, accident, hours of sitting each day, or repetitive use of the same muscles from exercise or work.

You are a collection of your experiences, injuries and habits. What you do throughout your day greatly impacts your muscular balance.
Let's say, for example, you spend 8 hrs a day sat at a desk and you've done this for 10 years.

Your posture can become altered from this repetitive sitting and will adapt to hold the positon it frequently finds itself in. Your upper back muscles are going to change position from all the hunching over a computer. Maybe your shoulders round forward. Your hips become stuck in flexion  and will struggle to extend. Your feet might turn out.

This becomes your new, normal body alignment.

In this new alignment, muscles are stuck in stretched or tight positions and will not work as well. They can no longer do their job and can become imbalanced and dysfunctional.

As our muscles become imbalanced, this affects the way our bones and joints are aligned. Tight or loose muscles will cause bones and joints to drift from their normal, pain-free positions.

As a result, we lose our natural, strong, mobile, pain-free, vertical alignment (see image to the left where the joints are no longer stacked up vertical with the orange line.)

This loss of natural alignment is significant.

Misaligned joints endure extra stress, leading to cartilage wear, tissue breakdown, and pain. Tight muscles weaken, hindering optimal contraction and movement. Compensation by other muscles may occur, but relying solely on them long-term can lead to eventual pain and dysfunction.

For example, if muscle A is unable to do its primary job, because it has become dysfunctional, the body will recruit muscle B, C or J to do the job instead. These secondary muscles are compensating and doing tasks that they were not designed to do. This is fine in an emergency, but if this becomes the only way you can move, this becomes a problem and can eventually cause pain.

So, let's bring this back to the alignment of your body.

Most chronic pain and injury result from compromised musculoskeletal function - muscles doing jobs they are not designed to do, because we have lost our vertical alignment.

This includes all kinds of chronic pain from back, hip, knee, shoulder, neck, foot pain to plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel syndrome and more. The cause of all these is the same.

Therefore, restoring our natural vertical posture will allow muscles and joints to rest in their proper positions, allowing them to function properly, without stress, friction, break-down and pain.

The Power To Fix Pain Lies In Restoring Your Natural Alignment.

How Does Posture Alignment Therapy Eliminate Pain?

Posture alignment therapy addresses the root cause of your pain.

By treating the body holistically, we uncover the true source of pain rather than just addressing the symptom. Pain often originates from elsewhere in the body, not just where it's felt. For example, you can feel pain in your shoulder because of how your foot is moving.

Posture therapy re-educates your whole body to move correctly to access the full-range of motion in your joints and muscles, through simple exercises at home. It's empowering, as you actively participate in your own healing process, understanding and feeling your body change daily. No hands-on therapy involved.

The Super Power of Posture Alignment Exercises

And Why They're Different To Other Exercise Regimes
That Have Not Worked For You

1. Personalised For Your Unique Posture Profile

Generic exercise protocols generally offer a one-size-fits all solution for a particular condition or diagnosis.

However, the reason you have back pain or knee pain may be different to why someone else has the same pain. You therefore need exercises tailored to your unique condition to give your body what it needs to thrive.

Posture alignment therapy pairs you with the most effective exercises for your body and functionality and adapts these as you progress, so you're always working with the most optimal exercises for your body.

2. Focused Exercises That Prevent Compensation

Posture alignment exercises isolate the muscle groups that need re-educating without allowing other muscles to compensate, which often happens with other exercise therapies. It’s very hard to cheat with posture alignment exercises and that is exactly what’s needed to restore function and movement to the parts of your body that need it.

3. Addresses The Fundamental Reason WHY You're In Pain

Generic exercise protocols often focus on the site of the pain. They don’t consider why you developed pain in the first place or how the rest of the body is functioning to cause the pain. It’s often assumed that everyone’s source of pain is the same.

Posture exercises treat the body as a whole. By restoring proper movement to the whole body, this allows the hip to release and the tightness and pain to disappear for good.

What Kind Of Chronic Pain Can
Posture Therapy Help With?

By restoring natural, functional whole body movement, posture alignment therapy can help eliminate the following:
• Foot pain
• Ankle pain
• Knee pain
• Hip pain
• Lower back pain
• Upper back pain
• Shoulder pain
• Neck pain
• Wrist pain
• Sciatica
• Frozen shoulder
• Tennis elbow
• Golfer's elbow
• Carpal tunnel syndrome
• Plantar fasciitis
• Shin plints

Look At the Difference Re-Aligning The Body Makes

Image on left: Can you see the huge curve in my lower back? This was caused by my pelvis sitting in a forward tilted position. This caused extra pressure,  strain and pain in my lower back

Image on right: Notice how the lower back curve has reduced significantly and the forward tilted pelvis too. This allows the spine to sit more comfortably and the pressure on the lower back is reduced and the pain has gone.
Image on left: Notice how the hips are forward of the shoulders and the head is not aligned over the shoulders. A misaligned upper body will negatively impact how well the lower body works.

Image on right: Notice how the head is more aligned over the shoulders and the shoulders are more aligned over the hips. This translates into a body that moves with ease and less pain.

'This works and is worth every penny. I can't believe how much better my body feels. Thank you!'
